This is my illustration for a project that my friend Doug has put together for his class of first-graders in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana.  Each student wrote a story, and then adult artists all over the country illustrated them. (I want to put quotes around “artist” to refer to myself here, but all of the other illustrators’ work I’ve seen so far is truly impressive.)
You can visit the class blog, BIG CLASS, for more information and adorable pictures!
Now, Doug is raising money so that the class can have their books professionally printed. If you would like to donate, you can do so through their Kickstarter page. As Doug writes, “If we can pool our resources for our kids to foster creativity and a connection to a community, to give them access to talented people that have their best interests at heart, there is no telling what it will do to their confidence and ambition.”
This is the story I illustrated.

A Pig

One day I went to church with my sister and her friend. My sister brought a pig. They said “no pigs allowed!” They kicked us out. We never went to that church again.

The end.
